EXCELLENT Based on 10 reviews Traveller29202025-01-08Verified The lodge feels like a tree house When you walk to your lodge it feels like you are in tree house. At least that’s how I felt where my lodge was. Middle of Bwindi forest. Lush view from balcony, you can see the forest and if you’re lucky you see elephants, rooms are nice and beds have mosquito net, bottle of water in the room, towels in bathrooms, hot water takes time to heat up, you have to turn it on and wait for couple of minutes to heat the water. Breakfast is order night before, they have a menu with selective options and you can order one, two or three options, pancakes and eggs are delicious. There is always tea on table in lobby to drink. Also there is a bar in the lobby where you can order any drink you want. Staff put hot bottle water in your bed at nights to keep it warm, it’s very nice. However sadly when water gets cold middle of night it gets cold. I wish they put extra blankets in rooms for people that need cause blankets on bed are thin for cold weather. Trash bin in bathroom would be necessary. No trash bin in bathroom, only one in bedroom. Staff are super friendly and kind, in the evening if you need a hand to walk at dark night to your room they walk with you with flashlights. Enjoyed our stay very much! Lisa V2024-08-18Verified Beautiful and friendly staff I loved my stay here! The staff are incredible! Do they sleep?? The food is fresh and delicious. There was 97 steps to my tent from reception- but the exercise allowed me to indulge in dessert. The tent was beautiful and clean. Huge bathroom with jungle views. I loved spending time on my porch watching the monkeys. The hotel will organize a local at a moments notice to do a community walk to a nearby Batwa-Pygmy community for $20. Highly recommended it if you are physically fit. It was a bit cool at night - I loved the cozy hot water bottles they put in the beds at turn down. Highly recommend this gem. Bring money for tips - the staff work so hard. Graeme A2024-08-17Verified Outstanding experience. Very comfortable accommodation. This is a great lodge to stay in. The dirt road getting to the lodge isn't that good. Its very bumpy and full of potholes. The lodge is very comfortable. Our room was very spacious with a very large bathroom. Mosquitos net over the King Size bed. Very comfortable. Lounge, dinning and bar facilities were good. Limited Wi-Fi internet services. You need to be in the lounge/bar/reception area to use the Wi-Fi. After trekking with the Gorillas we returned to the lodge and staff promptly cleaned our shoes at no cost. (We gave a tip). View from our room was just like "Gorillas in the Mist". Lucyan2024-02-17Verified Perfect Gorilla trek base camp This lodge is located at the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, close to gorilla trekking. Great views from the terrace and restaurant. The rooms/tents are spacious, with big clean bathrooms, hot water, comfortable beds. Great balconies that overview the forest and the property's garden. The food was very good and staff was super friendly and helpful. Justin2024-01-14Verified Gorilla Hills Saved Our Gorilla Adventure Gorilla Hills Eco-Lodge is a fantastic place to base your gorilla trekking adventure. The facilities are clean, comfortable, and well appointed, but what makes this place special is the staff. They are fantastic. We never wanted for anything. The service was incredibly personal and they went above and beyond at every opportunity to ensure our comfort and happiness. There was quite a serious snafu with our gorilla permits and Anette and her staff bent over backwards to straighten it out for us. Without their intervention, we would have left Bwindi without seeing the gorillas. They saved our entire trip. I can't thank them enough. The gorilla trekking was absolutely the highlight of our stay in Uganda. If you are going, it is a must do - bucket list- incredible experience. That said, with total confidence, I highly recommend Gorilla Hills Eco-Lodge. Peter H2022-07-29Verified Great service and food Absolutely loved our stay at the eco-lodge. We were greeted with a lot of smiles and amazing hospitability during the whole stay. Kefa looked after us, was always keen to help and went beyond his duties to make sure we have a comfortable stay (organized and delivered extra gas for us since we ran out and there was not a near gas station nearby). The food was also very delicious and considering the location, the variety was always pleasing. The electricity was on & off many times during our stay and the internet was very slow/almost non-existent but that's expected given the remote location. PDC_112022-07-27Verified A hidden jewel in the crown - a truly memorable stay. Ideally located for Gorilla Trekking Gorilla Hills Eco-Lodge is quite remarkable in terms of its location, and its views over the forest. Sitting outside on the veranda, and taking in these breath taking views, was an experience that will never be forgotten by us. We used it as a base to go Gorilla Trekking. Annette and her team were brilliant, and they all went the extra mile to make our stay with them as comfortable, and memorable as possible. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious. The individual lodges are all located next to paths leading from the main building. These are very comfortable, fully equipped, and have their own veranda's too. It does get cold at night, even with the duvet, so do ask if you want to have an additional blanket on top. Gorilla Hills Eco-Lodge is an undiscovered gem, and we can't recommend it highly enough. At the moment, cards are not accepted, so we paid in US$. This did not cause us any issues at all. Gabriele W2022-07-19Verified Great views in an amazing setting! Great views, stunning spacious and beautiful clean rooms, very friendly staff and welcome… We loved it! Perfectly situated close to the starting point of Bwindi Gorilla tracking… and rewarding you with a cold drink and warm welcome when back from tracking. rees_adam2021-06-14Verified The only ones staying during COVID but still enjoyable We reserved a room that morning and when we turned up (after some fun roads and a day travelling) we thought the lodge was closed. Never fear, staff started running up the hill and prepping the lodge for a nights stay. We were grateful to the efforts of the staff. We stayed very close to Bwindi forest which was great. Some bird spotting while the sun went down followed by a pleasant dinner. We chose to visit the local community the next morning with an excellent guide, Amos. It was a great tour. We thought the price we paid (which was different from booking.com) was quite a lot considering other similar lodges we stayed in throughout Uganda, the only real downside. JayeshMehta20142021-04-07Verified Excellent !!! We were 6 Friends with families, It was the best experience so far in Uganda. 1. Very Nice Location, Nature at the peak. 2. Best Hospitality, Specially Manager Annet went out of the way to make us have a comfortable stay. All the 8 staffs are helpful and always smiling. While raining, the staff escorted us to the main hall with their Umbrellas. 3. Lodge has 8 rooms and all of them are well maintained. Lodge is still New. 24 hours Hot Water running. 4. Food was excellent, being pure vegetarians, we requested them to use their kitchen and to our surprise they also allowed us. Dinning cum Sitting room Balcony has a great views, you can feel the clouds. 4. We stayed 2 nights in the lodge and we felt worth every penny. I strongly recommend the Lodge to all the visitors. We had a great time during the Easter Holidays. And definitely Visit again. Gorilla Hills Eco Lodge is bit far from Kampala but, after reaching at the lodge we were relaxed even after the long traveling.
Rooms have proper beds with mattresses and duvets, en suite (attached, in room) flush toilets, basins, and showers with hot and cold running water. Other amenities include mosquito netting, lamps, purified water, insect repellent, flashlights, wardrobes, and ethnic furnishings.
Bwindi is found in southwestern Uganda, about 530 km from the capital, Kampala. The main entry point into the county is Entebbe International Airport, which is about 46 km from Kampala. It can also be reached by road from Kampala to Kabale through Kanugu to Buhoma for those coming from Kigali, Rwanda, or the Congo. This is a tarmac highway route of about 414 km and can take about 5-6 hours.
Gorilla Permits are always in high demand, and they require booking on time. In case you are traveling with a tour company, they secure it for you, and in case you are, we can help get the permit for you.
